Grafton Center Library

The Grafton Center Library is sited on the Grafton Common, and is part of a National Historic District. Our firm was originally retained to renovate the roofs and cupola of the building. The cupola itself was quite an elaborate restoration, because we had to evaluate and detail its restoration, while it was up on top of the building.

Later, we worked with the Library to help them win a grant from the Massachusetts Historic Commission for an overall building restoration, including the building exterior and the main reading room. In the restoration we re-discovered particular details of the building, like the bronze paint that was used on trim over the circulation desk. The project was a challenging architectural problem, as well an opportunity to sensitively restore a significant civic building.
